As painful cases in which children die are continuously happening, we should solve child abuseand neglect immediately. AIM The final aim is to predict abused children using a result of a dental health examination and an inventory survey. In the final inventory survey, we plan to choose the most effective questions to predict child abuse. The present survey is a preliminary survey to decide on the questopns to be used for the final survey. DESIGN Seventy-two elementary school teachers were asked to answer thirty-five questions about the condition of school children. Two separate surveys on boys and girls were carried out with an interval of two weeks. RESULTS Sixty-four teachers (out of seventy-two) answered the survey twice, and as a result 258 pages of answers were obtained. Out of the thirty-five questions answered, Four of them had significant differences between the first and the second answers. In the first or second answering of eight questions, over six pages (about 5%) had the answer, "I don't know". A total of eleven questions including seven of the above eight were eliminated from the survey. CONCLUSIONS It was decided that the final inventory survey would have twenty-four questions (eleven minus thirty-four questions). And, the analytical methods used for the questions that had significant differences between the first and second answering may need to be changed.
