Self-introduction
Vibrational motion refers to the motion of molecules as they stretch and contract their chemical bonds and change their bond angles. When a molecule in vibrational motion collides with another molecule, not only a chemical reaction but also the transfer of vibrational energy to the other molecule occurs. We use laser spectroscopy to selectively detect molecules with different vibrational states and study how the rate of chemical reactions and energy transfer and the yields of reaction products change depending on the magnitude of the vibrational energy.
