Self-introduction
Through the control of material structures down to the atomic level, the modeling of phenomena inside materials, and the development of new material control processes, we are pursuing problems in multiple areas of material engineering and mechanical engineering.

CONTROL OF BOTH STRACTURAL ABD FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES ON  TYPE TITANIUM ALLOYS, Kazuhiro Matsugi, 4, The 3rd International Symposium on Metastable Materials Science & Technology, 2017/10/12, With Invitation, English, Chair of the Organizing Committee State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology, Yanshan University, China, For β type Ti alloys, the excellent combination of strength, work-ability and shape-memory, etc. is achieved by their microstructural control on the basis of the optimization of both their compositions and manufacturing process. Ti alloys contain three types of , + and  alloys, and their compositional regions have been specified in the Md-Bo diagram. This diagram has been used in the determination of alloy compositions, where, Md is the d-orbital energy level of alloying transition elements, and Bo is the bond order of the covalent bond strength between atoms. Mechanical and physical properties are strongly depended on the microstructures consisting of not only stable but also metastable phases. The precipitation of their metastable phases is also observed in the certain area through the  region in this diagram. For instance, the shape-memory behaviour is caused by the reversible martensitic transformation between the parent phase and the ” martensite phase. The ” appears at room temperature on the alloys with compositions near the phase boundary between + and  regions. There are alloy compositions with high strength even in this region showing the shape memory. Therefore, both Ti-6Mo-2Al-1Sn and Ti-6Nb-3Mo were determined on the basis of Ti-6Mo for improvement of thermal stability in shape memory behaviour, preserving the tensile strength of 700 MPa. The cold crucible levitation melting was applied to manufacturing of their alloys, in saving energy. The shape recovery rate of 40 and 25% was measured after 4 cycles in the loading-unloading tests in Ti-6Mo- 2Al-1Sn and Ti-6Nb-3Mo, respectively. They showed the As temperature above 490 K and improvement of thermal stability because of a much smaller amount of  phase than Ti-6Mo. The alloys showed tensile strength of 682 to 718 MPa. These results were caused by exactly prediction of the phase stability, shape memory ability and tensile strength, using alloying parameters. In contrast, the behaviour of deformation in stress-strain curves for alloys can be classified into two types according to predominant slip and twin mechanisms, which is also related to the kinds of constituent phases. Alloys with each mechanism are specified in the regions, and slip region is expanded toward the low Md direction because of the stabilization of phase corresponding to the decrease of lattice constant, which leads to high strength because of solid solution hardening of phase. Ti-11Cr-Mn-Fe-Zr alloy with Md of 2.28 and Bo 2.79 showed UTS and elongation of 1000 MPa and 18 %, even at as-cast state, which led to the saving energy in manufacturing process as no-post treatments after casting., experimental
