  5. New advanced computer-aided diagnosis system to screen osteoporosis using dental panoramic radiographs, Takashi Nakamoto, MD Mahmud Uz Zaman, Akira Taguchi, Keiji Tanimoto, Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery 28th International Congress and Exhibition, 2014/06/25, Without Invitation, English, Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, Fukuoka, Japan, A computer-aided diagnosis system to screen osteoporosis using dental panoramic radiographs was developed in 2008 in the department of oral and maxillofacial radiology, Hiroshima University Hospital [1]. This system can detect the change of inferior border of mandibular cortex, such as erosion, fissuring, on dental panoramic radiographs which was seen in the patients of low bone mineral density (BMD). Although the system had high diagnostic accuracy, selecting operation of region of interests (ROI) was manual. Therefore, the system had some difficulty for perfect reproducibility. Furthermore, since the size of ROI was small (100*100 pixels of domain directly under mental foramen), the part of cortical change might not be contained enough. The purpose of this study is 1: to automate selection of ROI for perfect reproducibility, 2: to expand ROI to detect the changed area as much as possible, and 3: to evaluate the diagnostic performance.
