Self-introduction
Dr. Md Shahrier Haider is a Professor at the Center for Special Needs Education Research and Practice, Institute for Diversity and Inclusion, Hiroshima University. He received his PhD in Education from Monash University, Australia, where he examined the use of digital technologies by students with disabilities in higher education. His research focuses on inclusive and special needs education, disability studies, diversity and inclusion, educational and assistive technology, visual impairment, and intersectionality. He is particularly interested in how technology, social contexts, and educational practice shape equitable learning opportunities for diverse learners. Before joining Hiroshima University, Dr. Haider was a faculty member at the University of Dhaka and a Visiting Scholar at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, New York University. He has led and contributed to government- and international NGO-funded field research in Bangladesh, collaborating with ministries, schools, communities, and disability organizations to advance educational policy, teacher development, and evidence-based inclusive practice. His research particularly addresses learners with visual impairments, assistive and digital technologies, and the intersection of disability with gender, socioeconomic status, and other dimensions of diversity. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals and authored several Bangla books on disability and inclusive education. At Hiroshima University, he teaches, supervises graduate research, conducts educational consultation, and promotes interdisciplinary and international collaboration to advance inclusive and equitable education.
